Emma turned 1 year old on Monday March 10th. This day will for sure go down in the record books for eventful 1st birthday parties. Unfortunately, she spent most of the day in the doctor's office and ER. She started running a fever on Friday and felt bad all weekend. On Monday, she was still running a fever and really run down so we took her to see her pediatrician and it all went downhill from there. We found out that she did indeed have an infection in her lungs. Dr. Lanman was wonderful, she found this out and immediately starting taking care of business. Emma got 3 breathing treatments in the office. Luckily after the 3rd one her lungs started sounding better or we were going to have to go to the hospital. So she got a shot of antibiotic, antibiotics to take at home and we would continue the breathing treatments at home every 4 hours. Of course I was a nervous wreck because she was working to breathe a little and wheezing so I was scared to take her home. We got home and got her all settled, she was exhausted and had a miserable day. We gave her a breathing treatment right before bedtime and then she really started breathing hard, horribly wheezing and didn't look good to me at all. We gave her a little time to recover and she wasn't getting over it, so we took her to the ER at Children's. Luckily, thanks to our dear friends Rob & Callie (Rob is a doctor at Children's), we were seen right away in the ER. By then, Emma was much better and breathing a little easier. They watched her for a few hours and suctioned out her lungs really well and we got to go home. So here we are two days later and much better. We are still doing the breathing treatments and antibiotics. We saw Dr. Lanman yesterday and she said her lungs sounded better. Praise the Lord. That was a very scary time for Mommy & Daddy. It most likely is viral bronchiolitis that she has, and it is just horrible in little kids... It is so scary and hard to sit and watch your child be so miserable and working hard to breathe, etc. Especially for an ICU nurse who has seen the worst!!! My sweet girl is a trooper though, she is feeling so much better and playing a little more now. She hasn't had a fever in 2 days which has made the world of difference. Keep her in your prayers to get over this silly bug quickly!
As far as her birthday party.... we had our families up to our house and had a good time. She did good for about an hour and played and tried to eat some cake, but then pooped out. Poor baby.. it's amazing how resilient kids are... she was running a fever the whole time yet she still managed to play some, whereas any of us adults would have been laid up in the bed. She got a lot of fun presents and was very thankful for all of them!
Thank you for checking up on us!!! We love you all.
